Last week Social Ads Team spent 8 days between Cairo and Alexandria working in a mediterranean cross-border partnership funded by Anna Lind Foundation
Tamkeen works directly with Egypt's most vulnerable communities, supporting youth facing unemployment, providing legal aid to refugees, and empowering women. It's valuable work that's been making a real difference.
We put in common the challenges Mediterranean countries are facing because of climate change and when analyzing the data we were alarmed by the soil degradation numbers.
According to the Union for the Mediterranean, the region is home to over 80 million hectares of degraded land.
Also we discussed the problems in Mediterranean rural areas. Youth unemployment is a critical issue with entire generations migrating to overcrowded cities because staying in their villages means no future.
This isn't a forecast. It's happening now.
Tamkeen knows this crisis from the inside. We know how to scale solutions through digital strategy. So we decided that together, we will build something that addresses both.
The project:
We're applying to Interreg NEXT MED, a cooperation program that funds cross-border projects between Mediterranean countries to address shared challenges like climate adaptation and sustainable development.
Our initiative wants to turn degraded land into economic opportunities for youth in rural areas across 6 countries.
